Hey all graduating secondary school students!

SAJC Concert Band is having their Tune-In II on the 20th November 2010 (Saturday)

It will be held at SAJC Band Room:

Furthurmore, our lovely ushers will be bringing people to our doorstep from Potong Pasir MRT Station itself from 8.30am to 9am!

3) Contact Number (If private)

4) Whether or not you can bring your own instrument*

*We will try our best to provide instruments for those who are unable to bring their own, but we may not have enough. So we hope you can bring your own instrument as much as possible!! (:

The band dinner will be held in Orchard Hotel, on 27th May 2010, at 7.30pm

Pls inform your batch's SL by 2nd April(for JC2s) and 7th April (for JC1s) if you are unable to attend.

1) Concert Ticket $$: For those who have not settled your ticket sales payment, pls do so by 7th April. All payment to be made to Ms Ho. Accounts need to be closed by 9th April.

7 days to 1st rehearsal, 34 days to concert.

Those who had performed in the "One Family, One Flag" concert of 2006 would remember the pride they had, on the stage of Esplande Concert Hall. The hearts of the Saints in the SA family beat as one, on that memorable night. The memories of that concert will always remain in the hearts of those who played with their juniors, their alumni.

4 years later, the 2nd series of "One Family, One Flag" is launched. It is worrying to see pple not working hard enough for the concert, though many said that everything would just be ok on the concert day. Time is running out. We have expectations to meet. Our own expectations. Would we be able to come together as one and make 28th March a memorable night for everyone? When we play on the stage of Esplanade, who are we dedicating the pieces to? To our batch mates who had been thru thick n thin? To our juniors who have joined us and will continue with the legacy of this band?

It is a honour, not a given, to be able to perform in Esplanade. It is a fortune to perform with the bands of the SA family. Very few bands in Singapore are able to have a family concert like us.

Let's make 28th March a SA night, a night which everyone will remember fondly in years to come, a night which ends our band journey on a beautiful musical note.

The SAJC Concert Band is holding their 2010 Band Tune-In !

And we're extending an invitation especially to all Secondary school Band Members who graduated in 2009 (& even 2010!!)
to join us on this fun-filled and musically challenging event.

It'll be held in:
1) SAS Band Room of St. Andrews Secondary School (REPORTING VENUE)
2) SAJC Band Room of St. Andrews Junior College
Both in St. Andrews Village, Address: Potong Pasir Ave 1.

On the 9th of January 2010

It'll begin at 10am to 3:30pm
Kindly arrive at least 20 mins before the mentioned time
for us to facilitate the event better (thanks!)

Dress code is flexible, though we would strongly recommend
School Attire with Band Tee and extras to change into
for your own comfort.

Hi all,

I know its been a really long time since we have posted on this space here. So here's the advertise our up coming performance!

St. Andrew's Junior College Concert Band will be having a performance at the Botanic Gardens on the 13th of December!
We will be joining bands conducted by Mr. David Glosz, such as St. Patrick's School, St. Andrew's School, Catholic High School and a Combined Primary School Band consisting of St. Andrew's Junior School, St. Anthony's Primary School and St. Stephen's School.
SAJC Band will be performing together with Symphonia, Singapore Management University's very own symphonic band.

Pieces to be performed by SAJC include March Blue Sky and Enchanted! ABBA Gold, Jupiter Pop and Jubilance will also be played by the other bands. A highlight of the evening will be the Combined Band of the sec sch and JC bands, bringing you some christmas tunes for the season

So come and join us as we perform for you on a wonderful Sunday evening!

This post is specially dedicated to my batch. Only after the damn SYF do i realise how much i miss every single one of you (yes even you). I miss playing pieces with you guys and making chen lin angry or upset. I miss performing Westside Story (OUR song) in perth, in Singapore, in practically wherever we go. I miss shouting in the band room, i miss having just us, the "easy way out" batch in the band room, fighting for recognition, improvement, fighting for respect.

Although it is all over now, almost in a blink of an eye, it has been recorded for eternity in my heart. I guess we will always be remembered? Watching how Mr. G describes his previous batches extensively, i am sure we will be mentioned to the future generations of the band. Maybe he will say, we are the batch that cannot perform, we are the batch that deals with things the easy way out, we are the batch that puts in no effort, has no discipline and no sense of urgency. We are the underperforming batch of SAJC. These words were once true, don't we all agree? We started off the journey as a batch on a rough stony road, people were expecting to see great things coming from us, but all they got were mere disappointment. They hoped that in months to come then we'd have put up something to show them the miracle; yet on the 8th March it did not happen, still.

Many have pointed their fingers, scratched their heads and thought, what had went wrong with this batch? and some of us, even some of ourselves were affected, dejected, and almost gave up on each other. But, we manage to cling on to our passion for music, our passion to make IT work.

We try and we try, again and again. We don't care how much others may criticise us, how much disappointment they may reveal, we do our best and we keep trying. For more than a year we push and push, slowly but surely we told ourselves we are going to climb to the top.

We did it. Astounding chord, jaw-dropping performance, brilliant band, fantastic spirit. What can i say? I am proud to be a member of SAJCCB; not just because of its reputation as one of the best band, but also because of the sweat and tears the J2s have planted into their lives in band. We have come a long, and definitely, a harder way.

For days and nights i thought to myself why am i in band and why the hell am i still playing cornet haven't i promised myself never to touch the trumpet/cornet ever again in my life? Several times i thought of leaving, cos the whole thing appears to me as pointless and energy-sapping. I wanted to quit on you guys, i wanted to quit on cornet, i wanted to quit on music, i wanted to quit on myself. But somehow life twisted itself and i stayed. And never regretted.

The fact that we have successfully climbed from the bottom to finally, the peak of our own mountains, makes me feel proud and contented that everything has been fulfilled. Our dreams and desires ever since we started out, are fulfilled. To finally prove ourselves, and to put up a musical performance to touch the hearts of the people. We did it, we did it :)

And thanks to the j1s, it'd have been impossible without you guys. I am excited for what is instored for all of you in the upcoming year, and i am absolutely anticipating greater performances from all of you. Up and on j1s, don't miss us too much! :)

and once again, thank you (to my batch), all of you for enduring the race altogether. though we may not be the most brilliant and talented/"shen" batch.

to Eric and Phyllis, double thumbs up for the good job you guys have did in leading us. It definitely was harder for you people, but being the leaders you had to finish the race, and i must say you have done an awesome job in leading and taking care of all of us. Thank you!

to Miss ho, the band'd not have survived without your immense support and help and everything you poured into making things work for us. When people lost hope in us, you continue to believe. Thank you for everything :D

to Mr. G, everything, the chord, the performance, would have been shit if not for you. Thank you for not giving up or walking out on us. Thank you for your guidance, patience, and motivation. YAY SAINTS FCK IT. and because of you, on the 7th May i played, for the first time,with joy and serenity in my heart knowing that i am going to enjoy myself. And for the first time, i felt the band's spirit, i saw every single one of us moving together as ONE, and for once, i did not freak out. Thank you for you, and the musical blast that happened for everyone.

to my batch, it is over now, and it's time for all of us to move on. It is hard to let go, and it will take some time to forget the pain of missing being in the band room, of being the one that owns the band room. Though the pressure of BT2 and A levels is building up, let us all excel in our academics like how we have in our music :)

to the j1s, thank you for joining this band. and never for a moment should you doubt your existence or contribution to the band, because everyone of you counts. And i am sure, your batch will carry SAJCCB to a higher level. Up and On!

p.s to Joanne, Linda, Lynn, and Sean Quek, i love you people nobody can replace you guys in my heart, ROCK ON AND JIA YOU!

lastly to all Alumni, esp Mr. Sim and Mr. Yeo, a million thanks for running the race with us. And you guys did an excellent job in helping our band. :)

dear juniors,

it would either be denial or a lie if we completely dismiss the fact that we are disheartened after your performance was given an unjustified award.

but we saints,

we have and always are distinctly different than any other band. our chord.. musical chord that lasts for 5 seconds on stage, and emotional chord that strikes between us, the pride, brilliance, and soul in our music that lasts permanently offstage, is undisputabe, unarguable, untouchable, unbeatable. that was why you cried after your performance. and those tears of joy should surpass any disappointment the results have brought upon you.

saints have and always dilligently played with more heart and more voice than any band and knowing that is enough. defeat is temporary, knowing you have tried your best is everlasting. NO ONE can take that away from you.

up and on for now, the stage is ours in 2011.

If only we practiced harder
If only we didn’t have that many political problems
If only we put in more effort preparing for our concert
If only we didn’t pitch that wrong note, crash the cymbal too loud, end tuning note longer than everyone else, sleep so late the night before, snore the night before (causing fellow band members to lose sleep), drink so little water after that hyperstickyandsweet mars bar, etc.

Why speculate? I might as well say "If only I bought a bigger cake for my section" :(

My jaw was one of the many that dropped open when the results were announced, and it stayed in that position well after the end of that darned announcement.

And seeing our juniors look so sad, especially those who were with the previous SAS syf batch, I’m sure all of us laoniaos felt pretty bad inside.

If only we came down and helped out more?
If only some members of the alumni had more respect for others?

I can only guess what you alumni guys were thinking, because most of your faces were blank.

One of the members asked, ‘do you think we could have done better?’

Of course you could have. Even if you gave your 101% or 201% on stage, you could still have done better. ‘Perfect’ is relative. That’s why infinity is unquantifiable. That’s why extreme perfectionists commit suicide. That’s why MM is still working. That's why... ok enough.

So whether or not they performed well or didn’t (by the way I personally thought today was cock), what matters is how everyone felt immediately after your performance. That security, seeing no need to compare us with any other band. That sense of pride, knowing how much effort the members put in to achieve this level of music excellence.

When the tuning chord was played, the eyes of people in front behind to the side of me, young and old myopic or perfect, all those eyes went wide I tell you. No other band had that effect on them. So hello, don't doubt yourselves okay?

From that chord alone, there was absolutely no reason to question the band’s quality.

They(you) seemed to have regrets. Seemed to be disappointed about not doing things certain ways to achieve something different. But deep down, I believe they(you?) were more disappointed that what you believed in was not recognized appropriately. Whose loss is that?

I see gain.

I see the new batch taking this disappointment, and transforming it into an unwavering determination, to do everything they can to prove their worth to themselves.

Because nobody has been through the SAJC Band experience, and been under Mr G's direction and guidance, and Ms Ho's and the seniors' mentorship, and not grown into a stronger and more resilient person. At least none I know. If you do know of anyone, you're probably an idiot.

Have faith, stay calm, and let this work for good!
Sajc band, no other band bends it like we do.
So don’t harbour any regrets, but look forward and believe in yourselves.
Because your alumni believes in you. Mrs. Lee stands up for you. Your teachers in charge are the most dedicated ones around. With such awesome support behind you, you have no reason to doubt your potential. So don’t.

9 DAYS MORE SAJCCB!

HELLO- just some random thoughts

hihi ppl!

i guess we are all very encouraged by today's practice as it was really one of the good ones... we could really feel the emotions running with e sound. well, press on for syf, and lets make our rehearsals even better! i believe that there's no limit to how good we can potentially sound, provided everyone puts in our 110%, heart and soul into it. i believe that there will be this practice soon in which all will go well, and we really feel confident of ourselves. i cant wait for the day to come, and i cant wait for the excitement to go on stage and give my best.

i know this musical journey with my batch, e j2s was definitely not a smooth one, with so many incidents, problems and all, but at the end of the day, its possibly this last stretch that is the one we will remember the most. i hope, or rather, im sure that we would walk of the stage feeling proud to have performed the best 2 pieces of music in our entire band life. we have definitely come a long way from e start...... twins, west side story, flower power, takashimaya performance, american riversongs, sightreading pirates of e carribbean so many times and never playing it, PERTH, albany, CTs, exam break, festival winds (think powerpoint shirt...) band camp, CCA day, performing arts day, signups, a lot like jazz, last band camp which ended a few days ago.... haha... these memories which brought joy, tears, anguish and a whole palatte of other emotions and experiences to us we will never forget. i would also like add an observation/fact: from e start, till now, there definitely have been improvements, in both our playing standards and attitudes. WELL, at e end, lets not be bothered by the negatives or past setbacks, but instead press on for this last stretch of the journey and hopefully have this final magical performance together as a batch.

and soon, the j1s will take over and the j2s will step down. and after stepping down, despite all the ups and downs, theres no denying that i will miss my batchmates, as well as the times i spent in band. but yea... theres always SAB right? haha.

oh yeah, and jiayou for e j1s, and as you guys may have started on e right note, i hope complacency will not be a problem, as in music, there is an inifinity to standard. dont take comfort in the fact that you are better than someone, but instead push yourself to beat your own standards.

anyways, let us all have one common direction, a BURNING DESIRE TO PLAY THE BEST EL CAMINO REAL AND OVERTURE 2 IN OUR LIVES AS MUSICAIANS.

in closing, let me say something (esp to my batchmates) that i have always said
IT'S NOT HOW WE START, ITS HOW WE END. just enjoy e music!

i think the reason why we can't play up to standard is not really mainly because we don't practice hard enough. Of course yes we can afford more practices. But what is music? I guess it's not really practice, practice, and only practice. Music is an art, and art itself cannot be defined. It is not like mathematics, or experiments, that you can practice and try over and over again to get the best possible result.

Art has always been an expression of your individuality and emotions. When we settle ourselves down for band practice, too much focus has been put upon playing correctly, in terms of rhythm, dynamics, balance, tone etc. But what happens to the expression of yourself through your instrument? School is always being a bitch to everyone; teachers, results, tests, tutorials and you get the drift. But what else in life can we look forward to? Is Gold with Honours the title of the prize we really want? Maybe we should shift our own attention away, away from the stress and pressure. It has already done enough damage to destroying our musical cells.

I wanna feel my music and notes. Not just solely to play them. I want to touch audiences and sad to say, judges. I want to connect to people, and myself, with music. Why do you even love music in the first place? Sometimes we are so occupied with other achievements we tend to forget the first time we fell in love with this art. Don't be afraid to express who you are, don't be afraid peoplewill not appreciate you. If you're in pain, or in joy, draw out those emotions through your music.

I guess its really simple? Extremely hardwork, discipline (not pushing yourself to the extent you're hanging loose on the edge of the cliff), passion passion passion, and emotions. FEEL, don't play.

23 days (??) left to SYF? it's never too late. I don't want to focus on all the nasty comments i've heard about my own section. I guess it is enough - the damage words have done to me. It's high time i do justice to Music.

Alright, gd job everyone especially to those who practiced almost everyday throughout this holiday. As for those who didnt, i want to encourage you'all to find time over the nxt week to work on your individual parts ya? i cant stress enough that everyone is responsible for their individual parts cos its a team effort to play our music well alright!

So rest well and enjoy the rest of your holidays mates :)
oh and if you want the recordings of our concert you can ask from me yup

Hey everyone,

Exactly 1 week from now, we'll all be on stage performing at the SAJCCB Concert titled: A Lot Like Jazz. For the J2s, this marks the end of their band life and for the J1s, the beginning of ours. Imagine the post concert euphoria that will envelope us, the laughter and tears of joy of being able to say: Yes! We did it.

One week is all that there's left. I would just like to encourage everyone to give it their best this coming week. The success of the concert belongs to no one but us. The very people who put in so much effort staying in school til 10pm or later just to rehearse our parts. Let this concert be one that will be etched in our memory as a concert where we blew the audience away with our music. We will play with all our hearts and the audience will feel it. Let us all unite for this common goal. Let's make music!

ANW, to all the j1s that just joined us (excluding DSAs please we have had you guys with us more than enough), HELLLLLO AND WELCOME TO THE MOST FUN AND INTERESTING AND EXCITING AND EXUBERANT JC BAND IN SINGAPORE :D i'm glad you made the right decision to join us. It is an assurance that all of you will have lots and loads of fun here with your section and your batch mates :D

3 more weeks to Alot Like Jazz. J2s are dam freaking busy with our schoolwork, and J1s are hardly coping withthe new syllabus as well as getting used to the environment. I really hope that on the night of 8th March itself, it will be an unforgettable one. Even in the midst of our busyness, let's all work hard towards making music that is beyond good, but play with our hearts and make sure the audiences won't demand for the $12 back. Let them feel our passion in music, and i'm surewe are all going to make it.
